Unit 3. Annotated Bibliography
Assignment Description:
The annotated bibliography assignment is designed to help students start to analyze the sources they wish to use for their upcoming research paper. Students should be scrutinizing sources for validity, credibility, argument, and organization in an attempt to select the best, most relevant sources for their paper. The annotations also require a student's careful attention to APA style and knowledge of reference listings in APA.
Unit 4. Research Paper
Assignment Description:
This assignment is important in that it asks students to use what they have learned so far about the research process and writing for an academic audience and, based on their research question, to write either a final argumentative or a problem-solution paper. Using the same topic approved by the instructor for the Unit 3 Annotated Bibliography, the student's paper should be relevant to their field, but must be expressly written for ESL501 and should be written for a general (lay) audience. In the paper, the student must provide as much information as is needed to understand their topic. Further, they must show why it is important to write about their topic, and why it is relevant to a general audience.
